Casa Grande, Arizona is located in Pinal County and has a population of nearly 35,000. It was originally founded in 1879 as a mining town. Casa Grande is very strategically located between Phoenix and Tucson, though closer to the city limits of Phoenix.
Casa Grande is really at the crossroads where I-10 meets I-8 to Yuma and San Diego. So, those traveling between the big cities of Phoenix, Tucson, and San Diego, will come through Casa Grande.
The evidence of growth is everywhere with beautiful new homes and golf course properties. Casa Grande will soon join the ranks of premier shopping destinations with the Promenade at Casa Grande. Casa Grande’s Historic Downtown has interesting architecture and wonderful shops and restaurants as well.
If you are a Recreational Vehicles (RV) enthusiast, then Casa Grande has some of the best RV Resorts. Just to the south of Casa Grande, is Picacho Peak State Park. Picacho Peak offers amazing scenery, nature, wildflowers, history, camping, hiking, and an opportunity to see a working ostrich ranch.
If there is a “hidden jewel” in Arizona, it is Casa Grande. An easy drive to Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tucson, the Santa Cruz Valley, Tombstone in Cochise County, Arizona, and even San Diego. Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tucson are all as unique as Casa Grande, though only living in Casa Grande can one experience such a short trip to enjoy each of these beautiful cities.

About Casa Grande
Casa Grande is a dynamic, involved community, a modern city with rural heritage and old-fashioned values. Its economic base is a mix of retail trade, manufacturing and agriculture. Founded in 1879, Casa Grande was named for the famous Hohokam Indian Ruins 20 miles to the northeast. Midway between Phoenix and Tucson, the city has grown to be the largest community in western Pinal County since its incorporation in 1915.
Principal Economic Activities
Casa Grande is strategically located at the intersection of two interstate highways (I-8 and I-10) in an area known as Arizona’s Golden Corridor. Once dependent on agriculture and mining, the community has evolved into a diversified full-service area with manufacturing, retail trade, government and tourist-related employment. All of Pinal County is a designated Enterprise Zone.
Casa Grande’s location, mild climate, and scenic attractions make it attractive to tourists and winter visitors. The Casa Grande Valley Historical Museum offers many historical displays and facts about the area. The unique architecture of the historical railroad station and other historic buildings can be enjoyed on a walking tour of Casa Grande.
Named a Main Street city in 1992, Casa Grande is revitalizing the unique downtown area. The Casa Grande Art Museum hosts a number of shows each year featuring sculpture, water-color, multimedia and Western art by Arizona artists. The Casa Grande Valley Players will begin a new season of community theater. The city is also the home of the Arizona State Open Chili championship held every March.
The annual O’Odham Tash Celebration, a gathering of tribes, is held in mid-February and features Native American arts and crafts, ceremonial dances, rodeos, powwows and parades.
Shopping and Entertainment
Casa Grande’s market area consists of more than 91,000 consumers. Casa Grande is the retail center for western Pinal County’s consumers, including local retailers, specialty stores and antiques stores. Local retailers include: JC Penney; Target; Staples; Dillard’s; Walgreen’s; Bedmart, Inc.; Kmart; Wal-Mart Supercenter; Foxworth Galbraith Lumber Company; Second Skin; Reva’s Western Wear; Lowe’s Store #2272; Gotcha Covered; Office Max, Warehouse Furniture Outlet; and numerous specialty retailers. Food City, Fry’s Food Stores of Arizona, Inc. and Safeway, as well as several other grocery stores serve the citizens of the area.

Casa Grande’s newest addition is its 1,000,000-square-foot shopping mall, The Promenade at Casa Grande, which includes a number of well-known national retail stores and restaurants and a multi-plex movie theater. Casa Grande offers a broad range of community facilities including two senior centers, two museums, a library, a bowling center, a fitness and racquet club, one pool, four golf courses, an archery range, and rodeo facilties. There are more than 18 parks, many with ramadas, handball courts, tennis courts, softball diamonds, and playground equipment.
The City is governed by a Mayor, six Council Members and a City Manager. Police protection is provided by the City and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department. There are three fire stations with full-time emergency medical personnel. All Stations are staffed with Advanced Life Support Paramedics.
Lodging and Meeting Facilities
There are over 650 rooms available in seven hotels/motels which also feature numerous meeting facilities, with the largest seating 500 persons. Casa Grande also offers 15 RV parks in the area.
Casa Grande Regional Medical Center has the capacity for 240 beds. Medical professions in Casa Grande include: 41 physicians (11 consulting physicians), four orthodonists, 12 chiropractors, four obstetricians, nine optometrists, and 17 dentists. Also, 32 additional physicians (specialists) are available through the Associated and Allied Health Professions.
Casa Grande has six banks and two credit unions with 11 branch locations. Further, Casa Grande businesses are eligible for assistance in financing fixed assets through the Strategic Finance Division of the Arizona Department of Commerce. There are eight fully improved parks, most with access to rail, all with excellent access to I-10 and I-8. Parcels, ranging from one to 360 acres, are available.
Casa Grande has nine public elementary schools, two private elementary schools, and a new public high school facility at 2730 N. Trekell Rd., with a 2,800-student capacity. Central Arizona College, a two-year community college east of Casa Grande, offers a range of courses including college preparatory, liberal arts, vocational/technical, and career education. Arizona State University in Tempe (45 miles north) and the University of Arizona in Tucson (67 miles south) are major four-year state institutions. Northern Arizona University at Central Arizona College allows a student to choose choose from over 17 bachelor’s and 12 master’s degrees, plus 12 certificates and endorsements; for information, call (520) 421-1394. The University of Phoenix offers bachelors and masters degrees in business-related areas in conjunction with the community college.
Residents of Casa Grande have access to the Casa Grande Municipal Airport with two, 5,200-foot asphalt runways.
